i can't log on to any wifi signal. i dont have one at home but i get on public signals and surf the internet. i think it could be the fact that i don't a have a antivirus software on my computer and as some saftey clause not letting me on without one installed. could i be right or is it something else if so how can i fix the problem so i can download a new anti virus software. because i can't get online at all with my laptop. Or should i just get rid of it. i got it from itt tech when i signed up if the school was a crock maybe the laptop is too.

your computer wont care if you have anti virus or not but you should!
Most networks are wep key protected, if you are lucky or cheeky enough to find someone who hasnt configured wep there shouldnt be anything stopping you from connecting, but GET SOME ANTI VIRUS

You need to check your wireless network settings, you may be transmitting and receiving on a single band.
