Is it safe to open an executable file especially AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 7.5.476 from CNET.com?

Ive downloaded this antivirus software from CNET downloads.com which i believe is a well known software company but i get this message of it being an executable file and so it might contain "MALICIOUS" codes or viruses. Should i run this program which is supposed to get rid of viruses and not invite em.

Yes this should be safe - make sure you update AVG asap
download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition from the AVG WEBSITE that way your know it is safe
cnet is a good source to find news and programs etc...

i would consider it safe to download off of.

the file type in question shouldnt be a worry from cnet.

make sure you get avg updated and do a full scan
As Erik A stated, CNET is a VERY reputable source. It is safe. This is a better question than most you see on here however.
