my computer have been attack by a virus but i do not know how to removed it . it corrupted my wins xp and i have to format the whole hdd (not a single partition as usual) and even now trace of it is still visible (the new wins xp is unstable-frequent crash, antivirus software,games, application, firewall mostly will not be able to be install on first try and sometimes the setup.exe even corrupted . Avg wont be able to be install since it crash 3 times already while installing. not to mention the wins xp refused to be install while in formatting process (it kept saying 'fail to copy from...' until i delete all previous partition). My friend have check the my whole hardware and all of them are working properly(and he is junior instructor in computer maintenance in a private college but cant do much in software problem) . So what do you think?

If you have done a complete hard drive format, you shouldn't have any traces of the virus on it. Have you done a hard drive check to see if your hard drive is going bad? How old is the hard drive in question? If you think you have a virus still hanging about, pay the money for an anti-virus program that will check your system before it installs. Instead of formatting from windows, do your formatting from command line.

I have this great program called Ccleaner it's free and it really helps clean junk on the computer, also I have AVG 7.5 antivirus It's really good. (If you have anymore questions feel free to ask)

Are you running Norton by any chance? if so, disable it and see if that helps the speed of start up. if it does, then you can adjust the settings to enable after start up. Also, check in your start/programmes/startup folder and see if there are programmes set to start up that could be disabled. Sometimes you can see what is running in the background by the icons on the lower right hand side of the screen.

I suggest taking it to the place where you got it from before the warranty expires. Since it is a new one, we should assume you have a good sound card in there and it could be faulty. We had a faulty dvd drive on a one month old laptop so it's possible you could have a faulty hardware (or software) in there too.
I have a HP laptop..n ive always had a fast startup. Ok..when u start up..on teh bottom right..do u have many programs that also start up when u start up? If so.that's probably why. Open one of them up..n in the options..uncheck where it says, "Start program when windows starts"

My dell stopped working properly. At first when I turn it on, it says that some software or hardware change may have caused this. When I try all of the options, such as last known good configuration and safe mode, it starts up fine at the windows with the loading bar and then it goes to a blue screen. The blue screen says to disable any antivirus software, disk defragmentation, or backup utilities. The technical information reads: *** Stop: 0x00000024. It means that your disk drive has become corrupted or at least a vital driver file has!

If you have the windows CD you can boot from the CD to the recovery console and run chkdsk from their. Place the CD in the drive, boot from the CD and press R for Recovery console - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058

Blue screen and stop errors are usually related to memory problems. (especially if the 0x0000024 number is the same) Try removing the memory sticks in your computer one at a time in sequentially order to see if it boots. If it boots with one of the sticks missing then you know it needs to be replaced.

It sounds to me like you've got an illegal (pirated) version of XP.When you insall XP, you have a limited time in which to register and activate it. After this time , the program blocks a lot of the functionality.

I never push the 'ON' button on my notebook, all i have to do is to switch on the switch,and then my notebook will automaticaly turn on!! And everytime this happens, the date and time of my computer will reset back to 1st of Jan 2003 12.00AM. And this causes lots of problem to my software expecially antivirus software. If the computer is not keeping the date and time...the CMOS battery must be replaced. One way or another the startup issue is also related to BIOS settings which, again is not keeping any setting. Ask your notebook manufacturer how you can go replacing the battery.

As far as it "automatically" turning on, it sounds like it's not being properly shutdown and is configured to automatically reboot in the event the power goes out and then later comes back. If you shut down the computer properly it shouldn't do that.

As far as the time thing, it sounds like the clock battery is dead. And if you're using that computer with a power strip and always shut off the power strip, then I can see why. Even if the laptop is properly shutdown it might use power from the AC adapter to keep the clock running. (Parts of my desktop computer still have power even when it's shutdown. I know that because there's an LED on the motherboard so you can tell if it has power and avoid messing things up by trying to disassemble it while it's still got power.) If it doesn't have any power from the AC adapter I imagine it would use a little watch type battery inside it, which may have died on you.

Disconnect your computer from the internet immediately and get someone who knows what they're doing who can come take a look at your system.
That's a rough one. You probably have WinAnti-Virus Pro, which is itself a virus; the hardest one to remove I've ever seen. You need to run download %26 run CC cleaner, download and update Super Anti Spyware, but don't run it yet. 1st run CC Cleaner, don't reboot, then run Super Anti Spyware, which will take about 2 hours. Let me know if that works in e-mail if you'd like.

33 is a bit excessive, yes.

The easiest way to determine what you need is to look at the command, not the location. You show HCKU\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\ETC. This is the location. Just to the left of this line is the Command. If you expand the, it will tell you what the name of the program that is loading up.

Example: Under the startup item of Acrotray, My command line shows the following. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Distillr\Acrotray.exe

This tells me the startup file is an Adobe Distiller file. I know I don't need Adobe Distiller running in the background, so I check the box and turn it off.

Windows not seeing internal DVD drive HP Pavilion?

i have a HP DV4000 notebook with the factory DVD RW. Windows can no longer recognize it. There is no drive letter associated with it nor is it in the device manager. The bios is a little difficult to read and does not cleary state which part is associated with the DVD. Its not totally dead as disks do spin up when inserted. I think its just out of warranty (typical) so I am hoping its software related. System scans with adware and antivirus software have found nothing.

if you had a windows xp installation cd,

you can try to restart the machine off the cd,

basically all you're trying to do is find out the dvd drive is reading...

if you don't have one,

try to go to safe mode and see if you're drive shows and allows access to it..

you may have to reload the drivers for the dvd..

OK, you've got AGV anti-virus and Windows firewall? One's an anti-virus program, the other is a firewall. No problem (except that neither are that great).

If you've got another, unmentioned, firewall then that would normally switch off the WIndows firewall.

I just came across a site that sends you a laptop for free! I'm ordering mine right now, it's a Sony VAIO and it looks really hot!
It's fine to have anti-virus and a firewall, but you don't need 2 firewalls, delete one.

Go into control panel, select install/remove programmes wait for all to be listed, choose one to delete and follow on screen instuctions. Or use search bar type in firewall. Right click the one you don't want, choose delete, click OK. All's done.

Keep your AVG up to date, and the firewall will keep nosey parker out.

pretty much what those guys said (above). This sh!t is in your registry and if you dont know what you're doing, you can totally screw up your PC by even daring to go into registry.

Get a good antivirus/antispy--I like PCillin by Trend Micro. You can download it at their site or buy it and install it yourself (recommended if you have a virus--sometimes it wont allow the download of the antivirus software--it'll LOOK like it's loading but it will block it).
The best tools I have encountered are rootkit removers and the following anti-virus engines: Antivir, Kaspersky, ADAWARE by Lavasoft, Spybot Search and Destroy.

You can't clean it, use Avast
If your virus software can not clean it, the software is the virus, get rid of it. There is no way to safely decompile a program containing a virus and that is the only way you could do anything with it. You would need to be an expert programmer to read other people's programming, it is far more difficult than writing your own.
A good idea is to use AVG antivirus. For some people it works better than High priced anti virus systems. If it seems that the antivirus program is removing the virus yet it keeps coming back, stop you system restore by right clicking My Computer, click on the System Restore tab and disable it, then rescan. Keep System restore disabled for a while and eventually it should go away.

Yeah, the computer I'm using has a free McAfee antivirus package I got from AOL, been using it for about 7 months. Computer in the living room has same but has been using it for about a year - no problems. I don't think AOL is still offering it but you should Google McaAfee for free antivirus. i have windows xp 32-bit home edition version 2002, sevice pack 2. i recently upgraded my trend micro antivirus software, and i'm using it's firewall. i think i might be using the built-in windows xp firewall at the same time. this might be the problem, but i don't think so, it never cause problems before. the problem is that i can't upload anything!! i can't upload pictures in flickr, i can't convert pictures online, i con't send attachments in my emails, i can't post new threads (with attachments) in forums, and when i tried the online internet speed test, the download test worked (about 3mbs) but the upload test didn't work at all. when i was uploading photos on flickr, i tired the new uploader (online) their old one (also online), and their flickr uploadr software. i've tried many sites, and different types of uploading, but none of the worked and i've also tried using three different web browsers: internet explorer, safari for windows, and mozilla firefox. i get an error message.

What exactly is this "error message"? Try disabling Trend-Micro firewall if you are using the Windows Firewall as well. As far as I know, if you allow the browser program to connect, which it obviously is, then you should be able to upload photos. It has to be the Trend-Micro thing. Try changing some firewall settings, or completely disabling that part. Windows XP Firewall is not that bad =)

Wireless Internet? That term really bothers me. The only "wireless internet" that i can think of is satellite. What you are referring to is a wireless network with a shared Internet connection. The only other thing you will need to make that possible is a wireless router that is compatible with your wireless card. A Linksys 802.11g router can be bought for like 20 bucks. All you need to do is configure it with your Internet connection and so that it will be used as a wireless access point for your computer.

When I try all of the options, such as last known good configuration and safe mode, it starts up fine at the windows with the loading bar and then it goes to a blue screen. What you are experiencing is commonly known as the "Blue screen of death". It means that your windows installation has somehow become corrupt, possibly due to a virus or other problem.

If your computer came with restore CDs or a Windows installation CD, you will need to use them to restore your system. Please note that if you have to do this, you will lose any files on your PC. However if you can do a repair from the Windows CD, your files will NOT be lost.

You can do a repair from the Windows CD (If you have it) by going into the BIOS (When you boot and see the first screen, it will probably say something like "Press del to enter setup) and telling the machine to boot from CD, and then inserting the Windows CD and following the on screen instructions to do a repair.

If you do not have the means to do a repair and you have important files on your PC, you may need to look into getting data recovery BEFORE doing a restore or installing Windows. Alternatively, you could remove the hard drive from your machine and use a USB caddy to attach the hard drive to another machine via USB. (This may not work depending on the exact problem with the hard drive)

doubtful this would be due to your av scanner unless they disabled it and got you a virus whilst it was disabled.open your internet explorer and click on tools, internet options ,under the general tab click delete cookies and then click delete files and also tick the offline content box,next top corner right side click advanced and then bottom of the box click restore defaults and apply and you should then be sorted.as for your norton click through the settings in the program and see if it has a default settings tab.

1: scroll lock was stuck on the keyboard when text-based applications were common, like telnet and DOS. hit scroll lock and it used to stop the scrolling text so you can read it before it moves offscreen.

2: The function keys do different things. f5 reloads the web browser, alt+f4 closes the program you're using, f11 usually makes the browser go fullscreen, kind of have to look them up.

I don't know much about computers so I will give you some details, they may or may not be relevant.

My computer had the Looksky w32 virus on it. I downloaded PC tools anti spyware. I have firewall and antivirus software. Since downloading the anti spyware I have not had problems with the looksky virus. Windows kept opening with www.instability software. I was also inundated with fake antispy ware websites.

But the screen freezing continues! When watching videos on my computer the sound and video are out of sync. On stuff downloaded from ITunes 15 second chunks of video an or sound will be missed.

For the past few years, I would buy the latest upgrade of my Mcafee virusscan and firewall and a friend of mine would uninstall my old version and install my new version. I bought it last year at Costco's for $39 plus tax. My friend is sick and not able to help me so when McAfee notified me that my software had expired, I for the first time renewed over line. The cost of renewal download plus a recovery disc to be mailed to me was $62. I thought that was awful high but am not sure of what other antivirus softwares are charging. In the future if you have a virus that AVG can't deleat what you do is use AVG to find the file name then do a search for the file once you find it in search you change the name of the file then you'll be able to deleat it!
Delete it and nothing will happen other than removing the virus but you will loose the setup file for the tools of IBM if it is already installed go and delete it.

First, the CPU is the Central Processing Unit...it is a little chip inside your case on the motherboard...just to let you know ;-)

You can increase your virtual memory by deleting files off your hard drive. Try using Disk Cleanup or CCleaner. This could be why your computer is freezing a lot. You might also want to get some more RAM for your computer if it is using virtual memory so much. Also, Norton is very cumbersome...I recommend AVG because it is free and works great!

first off, "CPU" is a term you use when you refer to your processor, not your computer as a whole. You need to boot it up in safe mode and use a restore point. You can do this by going to your start menu, help (on the bottom right side of the menu) and search for "Restore Wizard". When search results come it, click on "Run Restore Wizard"

I'm not familiar with that program. However Avast Anti virus has a free for home use version. You need to register it, but that also is free. It just depends on how much you browse "unknown" published sites. If you hit them often it would be safe to install the software. However, if you do basic surfing, I would not really worry about it. There really aren't any viruses for Macs, only the security holes in Windows. This is due to the complexity of Microsoft's integration of Networking. Macs do a wonderful job, but everything is usually in separate applications as Microsoft's apps are usually tied in to everything.
Mac OS X isn't prone to viruses such as trojans so you really don't need an anti-virus software. Somehow, the OS has a "built-in" anti-virus software and can "repell" the viruses.. thus protecting your MacBook.

See the set of icons in the lower right corner of the screen?

Hover your mouse pointer over them until you find the McAfee Security Centre icon.

Click on it and go to the "Firewall" option and start checking the list.

If you originally downloaded the anti-virus program what you want to do it find the original download program and move that off to CD ROM and then when you get your new pc all back up and running, install it again.

If you paid for the serial number of a downloaded program you may be able to skip this step, get your pc up and running, and download the program file again and enter the old serial number.

It all depends. If you had a friend install a program and take the disc back with them, then you're out of luck.

Hope this makes sense. I don't think you can simply COPY OVER the installed program. You'll need to use the set up file.

I started by trying to download a codec for media player, clicked on the run button and Trend Micro started going nuts. So I cancelled everything but too late. So now I have this little shield that comes up indicating a system alert that tells me I have a number of spyware applications impacting the performance. To remove the unwanted spyware, it instructs me to click on the icon to download an up-to-date anti-spyware solution.

I already have Trend Micro so did a complete scan, then a spyware scan which turned the computer off and now it won鈥檛 start unless in safe mode. In safe mode I went to the Trend Micro site and downloaded Housecall Online and did a scan as well. It told me every thing was clean, yet the computer still won鈥檛 start!

So, I鈥檓 all out of ideas for what to do next to fix it, and still have a computer that won鈥檛 start up. Any ideas would be great.
