Spybot-search and destroy?

Is Spybot search %26 destroy an antivirus software? if I have it in my computer already, should I download another antivirus software like AVG, for example, will that cause trouble for my computer if I have 2 of them?

No it is not an antivirus software. It is only for spyware and adware.

AVG is one of the better free ones. If you're willing to pay for antivirus, I recommend Kaspersky. I would also recommend NOD32 but that 1 is for more advanced users.

Yes it is actually a very good program, mainly for spyware though. You can use it with AVG without any problem, but I actually prefer to use ad-aware with it. That is just my preference because I had AVG before I got Spybot S%26D, it didn't prevent or detect the virus I had so I had to reformat my computer. Some antivirus programs won't work if there is more than one on your computer. I know Norton used to be like that.
Spybot S%26D is not an anti-virus. It's an "anti-spyware".

You still need to have an anti-virus. AVG will do fine.

The two won't conflict with each other.

You also need a "firewall". Windows XP and Vista both come with firewalls, so you might not need one.

If you have all three of those things, you'll be very safe. The firewall and the anti-virus need to be running at all times. The anti-spyware should be ran weekly, and you should scan with the anti-virus every week.
i use both programs no probs avg scans every hour and runs in back ground spy only scans when u tell it to .just rember to update spy every week hope this helps

I recently downloaded a copy of Autodesk 3DS Max from a retailer. After I finished downloading, my antivirus software displayed this information:

Is this a normal reaction for my antivirus software against this program? Or has someone infected my downloaded file?

p.s. The file I downloaded was a RAR compressed file.

What anti-virus do you use? If not Kaspersky, AVG, or McAfee, it could be a false threat.

On the contrary, it could also be infected when you were downloading the file through a unsecure line.

previous question of mine regarding antivirus software led me to download antivirus shield.no problem downloading it etc.but first run started and said it will take some time.initially finish time was approx 2 hours.left it run,came back and it then says completion 9am tommorrow!i thought this overly long so stopped scan for now.if anyone has this programme please put my mind at rest that this is the norm so i can continue/delete programme and download different antivirus!!!!!!!

turn off system restore:

XP:

start--all programs--accessories--system tools--system restore

check the off box

Vista:

right click computer icon

select properties

select system protection

uncheck os ( c: ) ( system )

stop messenger spam !!

XP only:

all programs--administrative tools--services

Okay...this is hard to explain but okay...i just got this AVAST ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE just lately and was letting it scan my computer while i was away...so it scanned and scanned and when i was back...my screensaver was on....so i shook the mouse and tried to get back to windows but then i realised that i can see the start icon and those others small small icons below the screen...what the hel is going on?i can only see the desktop items like my computer...recycle bin and stuff...izit something wrong with my computer and what...and then...i tried using many keyboard shortcuts and the whole screen TURNED BLACK and i cant do anything...****!and well...i just got MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION SERVICE PACK 2 just LATELY....is something wrong wth the antivirus?the service pack..my hardware?what should it be...and oh ya...i haf two antivirus on the run...avast and avg...so didnt it crash o what?and i have like few gbs of songs...so well?what is the main cause..help!the bst ansnwer gets 10 p

If you download music from Limewire or other places like that, maybe a virus got in while downloading one of those

Maybe your antiviruses crashed

1. I dnt know what is wrong but last week my laptop(1 month old) was surfing the net at great speeds like 1-2 secs per page!!

A lot of factors can play into a slow internet connection but here are some things you need to check which you may have forgotten.

SP2 has been known to cause many problems after installing it. Particularly, it has caused some problems with some antivirus software. Finally, running two separate antivirus programs at the same time is just asking for trouble. You should do that because these programs step can step on each other's toes and wreak havoc on your computer.

My suggestions would be to disable both antivirus products and see if your computer runs alright. If it still doesn't run well, then SP2 mightbe your problem.

Then, run only on of the AV programs you have. Maybe just one of them is having problems? Scan your computer with each of them.. but not at the same time!

I am trying again with similar question of IE 7 getting error report of IE has encountered a problem and needs to close each time i try to close it i have selected report to microsoft and that of course dont help. and also i dont need to go and download avg antivirus or spyware I have updated antivirus software and additinal soft ware for spyware etc. I have hard time to beleive it is virus or spyware related, just hard when i have 3 computers i get same problem and so many others get the problem, and on this one its a fresh install from microsft disc of IE7 hard drive has completley been wiped and formatted etc. all windows updates done, all antivirus updates done, when uninstalled i have cleared he entry from my register, all that sort of stuff i am not a beginner with computers but this issue with IE is driving me crazy if you dont know please dont know for sure please dont attemp.. sorry just so many times and same answers, all saying virus cause so easy to say um must be a virus

do not use IE. it is very vulnerable to spyware and viruses. From now on use mozilla firefox, probably the best browser out there on teh web. It is faster and a hell of a lot safer.
