For some reasons, Anti virus packages like McAfee and Norton seems to be resource hogger. I am at present using both as well as AVG Professional at office.
If you intend to buy one for commercial usage, going by the prices, AVG Professional $39, Norton AV and McAfee are around $40 - $50.
Farther due to both McAfee and Norton is heavy on system for some reason and even its not possible to get the best out of them.
I prefer AVG Free Anti virus and if your usage requires non-commercial or 'personal' computer usage, better you go for AVG Freeware. It very light on the system and free daily automatic hassle free updates and upgrades are available too.
All these anti virus have no problem installing under Windows XP sp2.
